Winning the Lost
Did you know that thousands upon thousands of men, women, and children in India are dying, and most of them die without a Savior?
The India Evangelical Mission, Inc. (IEM) is a multifaceted ministry with the goal of winning the lost, building and equipping the saints, and then sending them forth to fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord. (Matthew 28:19-20). IEM was founded in 1966 by Dr. G.V. Mathai, being burdened that millions of Indians were headed toward a Christless eternity.
Following the strategy of the Apostle Paul, "Being made all things to all men, that I by all means he might save some" (I Cor. 9:22), IEM is reaching the lost by meeting the spiritual, physical and material needs of the people. Large evangelical crusades, tract distribution, Christian Reading Rooms and Bible Correspondence Courses have all proven very effective in leading the spiritually hungry to Christ. In addition, IEM cares for people's physical and material needs through the following programs.
- IEM Medical Clinics - Children's Home - Slum and leper colony ministry
- Disaster Relief - Food/Clothing distribution - Financial aid to the poor
Through these programs, and others, Christ's love is exhibited in a real way and many are drawn to him.
Since foreign missionaries are not allowed to preach the gospel in India, an important part of IEM's ministry is training Indian nationals in the word of God that they may take a "fully equipped" role in winning souls for Christ and establishing churches. The IEM Bible College exists to meet this challenge. Read more about it on our Bible College page.
God willing, IEM intends to continue it's work in India by establishing a strong Christian witness, and planting churches in this predominantly anti-Christian group nation. By winning the lost, building and equipping the saints, and sending them forth we will be obedient to our Lord, for the furtherance of His kingdom.
March 2013
Beloved Ones in Christ,
The Lord in His mercy gave me a safe journey back to the States. The last two months were very busy. I spoke in many Bible studies, evangelistic meetings, and Sunday services. The believers are encouraged and thanking the Lord for the growth of the church. The Lord also enabled me to lead several people to the Lord through personal witnessing.
The last week of February, Reji (Director of our Mavelikara ministry) and I traveled to the northern province of Idukki where IEM has established a few churches over the years. Brother Michael Nixon oversees the churches in that area. The pastors and believers gathered together for a special meeting, and we encouraged them to make an all-out effort for the winning of souls in that mountainous region. Please pray for the ministry in Idukki.
The weather in India has been extremely hot, and there has been a water shortage. We thank the Lord for provision to dig a new well on our campus. The work started on February 24th and was finished March 15. We hope to get sufficient water for the entire campus.
The children and staff who were sick with chickenpox are gradually getting better. We look forward to them all returning to normal health.
The Bible College students are actively engaged in outreach ministry in different states. Babu Paul, our Bible College registrar, is currently traveling and visiting many of the ministry centers and holding special outdoor meetings. He will be preaching in all the places where the students are ministering, and arrangements are being made for baptismal services to baptize people that have already been led to the Lord. House churches have been established, and we rejoice in the fact that the Lord has kept the door of evangelism open and that the Holy Spirit is convicting many people to believe in Jesus Christ.
Before leaving on his ministry trip, Babu’s wife Ajitha had a serious accident. While draining a large pot of rice, she lost her grip. The boiling hot water splashed onto the right side of her face and body, and she suffered third-degree burns. Although I encouraged Babu to postpone his trip, he did not want to lose his train ticket. His mother and mother-in-law are staying with Ajitha, and she is receiving treatment at home for her burns.
Please pray for the following requests:
- Babu’s wife Ajitha to receive complete healing
- Protection and blessing on Babu’s ministry trip with the Bible College students
- Continued healing of the children and smooth operation of the Children’s Home
As the ministry grows, there are increasing financial needs. I cannot share in detail, but we have some urgent needs at this time. Please pray for the Lord’s provision.
Thank you, dear ones, for your faithful partnership in winning souls and building up the saints in India. May the Lord reward you and keep you in His joy.
Yours in His Service,
G.V. Mathai
